Last Tuesday July 10th our determined Sage Community met with Tom Weber at the regularly scheduled monthly meeting...I think we all made our feelings clearly heard as to the outrageous and unacceptable removing of the Sage drop in room from the hub of the center of the NYC LGBT Community which is the Center on 13th St.
Looking
This is an issue worth fighting for and our fight is still in it's early rounds...
We are fighting for the many members of our community who count on our connection to the LGBT Center on a daily basis some for over 20 years...We are also fighting to keep Sage from becoming nothing more than just another irrelevant senior center void of any political connection to the actual LGBT community..LGBT seniors demand more relevance than dance classes and arts and crafts programming...every time we walk through the doors of the LGBT Center that many of us fought to bring to existence we are making a political statement that is an integral part of what Sage stands for..or has stood for up until this time...Sage cannot separate itself from the LGBT Center and still be considered a Representative LGBT group in any real sense.
Next week the most important meeting so far will be held on Thursday..
I will have a lot more to say about that meeting over the weekend and I'll post my thoughts on this board..
I urge everyone to make yourselves available to attend that meeting at 6PM July 19th at 305 7th Ave...Again I will post my thoughts on our tactical approach to that meeting sometime over the weekend....
Tom Weber posted his notes on last Tuesday's community meeting...he posted it as a reply in another thread...I am going to recopy it and post it in a new thread so it can be in a more prominent spot on the board...
