OK..this Thursday July 19th at 6PM on the 15th floor at 305 7th Avenue we will be having a very important meeting..the most important one yet.
For the first time the actual people of our Sage community will have an opportunity to confront the so called"advisory board"..sort of a mysterious entity that somehow is chartered to make decisions as to the direction that Sage takes..as far as policy and planning..
How this group of people could have been at all included in deciding to close the Sage drop in room is unfathomable considering as far as we know not a single one of them has ever participated in or spent any time at all at the drop in room...
How could any of them be expected to understand the importance of and the needs that that room serves to so many long time Sage members..
They are totally clueless and it will be up to us to clearly define the importance of that room and keeping it's location in the hub of the NYC LGBT Community at the LGBT Center on west 13th St...
We have been told that Micheal Adams Sage's CEO will also be at the meeting..
In the last few weeks we have been contacted by quite a few irate members of Sage many of them large financial contributors..who are reconsidering their financial support and are very angry not having even been informed of the proposed shutting of the drop in room.
We must be prepared to attend this important meeting and loudly and clearly make it clear that this is an unacceptable situation that not only will severely affect many long time Sage loyalist..BUT will also render Sage itself as totally irrelevant to the general LGBT community..in every way including politically..
Sage will become just one of many local Senior Centers that cater to specific interest groups..in this case LGBT Seniors..separated from the political hub of the rest of the LGBT Community at the 13th St Center...
This is so outrageously unacceptable to so many of us who have fought our whole lives to create, support and strengthen a real LGBT Center...to divorce ourselves from that Center is an insult to LGBT Seniors....no matter what the reason..be it money...or anything else there is NO way to justify this incomprehensible planning and we must be fully prepared to confront and correct this situation.
Several strong supporters of our cause will be out of town on the 19th...WE STRONGLY URGE everyone who can be there to be there...
Our clout depends on our unity and our determined people...it would be easy in the heat of the dog days of summer to get tired and weary of the fight and get worn down and discouraged...THAT CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN...!!!.
In life most worthwhile and important things are not east to accomplish..to our community there is NOTHING more worthwhile and important than our continued relevance and presence as an integral part of the NYC LGBT Community..We are looking forward to seeing everyone Thursday night where we will strongly in no uncertain terms express our will!!!
