OK..We are all extremely happy about getting a great new drop in room just one floor above the old one...the contentiousness is over and now we need to work with Sage and the Center to Orion out the details concerning the new room.
Tom Weber will be holding our regular 2ND Tuesday Community meeting on August 14Th..It is very important that all who have questions and concerns about the details involving the new room be there to voice them and have them addressed.
Personally I have several concerns that the new room be completely ready to serve as a fully functioning drop in room by OCT 1 as promised at the last meeting by Sage.
For one thing it is absolutely necessary for the partitions that separate the space into three small rooms be taken down...If Sage is paying the center to lease the new space the center should be prepared to lease out the space to us the way we want it..any landlord is required to improve the space to the satisfaction of the paying tenant..
The room should be cleaned up before we move the couches and chairs up to it.
There are many other issues that need to be brought up and worked out before October and we should be prepared to address all of our thoughts and concerns to Tom Weber at the August 14Th meeting.
I would also like to suggest a celebratory party/room warming/gathering to be held prior to the move..
I think it would be very productive to have Micheal Adams,Glennda Testone and members of the Sage and center staff at this gathering in one of the Centers large rooms...the purpose being to celebrate and dedicate all of us to a new era of camaraderie and cooperation going forward..an era where all voices will be listened to and enable us to work together as a unified community in the future...We all need to understand that we are all one community..Sage,The Center and the members..
Another issue I think needs to be addressed at the August 14Th meeting is what is being done as of NOW to fund raise to maintain and keep our permanent presence at the LGBT Center...fund raising for that specific purpose which has also been promised by Sage..
We do not want to find ourselves one year from now back to square one..The time is NOW for the fund raising efforts to proceed.
Those are some of my concerns...
Having spent much time talking to the drop in room regulars I know there are many other questions we all have which again makes it very important for all that are concerned attend the August 14Th meeting.
The meeting is set for Tuesday August 14Th at 4PM in the old drop in room on the first floor of the LGBT Center...
I am again calling for a pre meeting at 3PM just so we can get our thoughts together and be able to present an articulate and clear dialog at the meeting...
This meeting should be an event of good will and celebration with the understanding that we have the room and the details can be addressed and worked out.
